Virgin Media Television seeking submissions for new post-watershed drama series for 2022/23 schedule

As part of Virgin Media Television’s on-going Drama Initiative, the TV broadcaster is currently seeking submissions for new post-watershed, drama series for our 2022/ 2023 schedule.

Virgin says it is seeking gripping and compelling stories that reflect a diverse, contemporary Ireland and will resonate with viewers here and all over the world.

Virgin Media Television’s drama initiative has enjoyed great success thus far and seen the broadcaster partner with some of the most prominent names in drama: ITV, BBC, Channel 5, Netflix, Freemantle, and All3Media. Virgin’s original dramas such as Blood have also won international acclaim and awards from IFTAs to Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Award, and have been sold to more than 80 territories worldwide.

“This is an invitation to explore contemporary themes, new and exciting visual styles, and narratives focusing on original, noisy ideas with a view to potentially returnable, ‘brand-defining’ series. The overall style and production values must strive for international standards and appeal, with content that is of interest to a wider audience.”

“This is also an excellent opportunity to mix both established and new creative production techniques and talent, with the aim of attaching new, upcoming names alongside more prominent, internationally recognisable faces.”

“Above all, confident storytelling is a must. We are seeking high quality series, with great characters, strong plots, and emotionally engaging tales that reflect the contemporary world; the issues and dramas that affect all our lives and the milestones of modern living.”

The finance plan is to be made up of local funding, grant initiatives, and international partners complementing Virgin’s initial investment. Companies submitting projects should demonstrate a successful track record in raising such funds and managing multiple stake holders.

The submissions deadline for this Drama Initiative are expected on or before Monday, May 24th.

All applications should be submitted through the Commissioning Portal.
