Reminder: Applications open for Fastnet Film Festival's €20,000 Puttnam Award
04 Feb 2021 : News Desk
Fastnet Film Festival's Puttnam Awards
Until midday on the first of March, filmmakers can continue to apply for Fastnet Film Festival’s Puttnam Award, which is making €20,000 available to fund production of one live-action drama.

Short films should be a maximum duration of 10-mins, made on the Cork Wild Atlantic Way, and have a theme connecting to “The New Normal”.

Four finalists will be selected by a panel of industry judges to take part in a pitching event during Fastnet Film Festival 2021 (26th – 30th May), and the winner of the 2021 Puttnam Film Award will be announced at the FFF Awards on Sunday 30th May 2021.

“This is a great opportunity for a quality, director-driven project to be realised and have its premiere screening in Schull in May 2022,” Festival Director, John Kelleher told IFTN. “If you’re a filmmaker submitting an entry for the FFF Puttnam short film award, please make sure that you are complying with the relevant application criteria.”

“That said, the judges will try to adopt as flexible and reasonable an approach as possible,” Kelleher continued. “So, for example, while the duration (10-mins max) and the requirement to film on Cork’s Wild Atlantic Way are essential, a creatively imaginative approach towards reflecting the theme of ‘The New Normal’ will be welcomed. One requirement that is absolutely set in stone is that entries received after 12 noon on Monday 1st March will not qualify. Best wishes and we look forward to your submission..”

Fastnet Film Festival continues to keep its options open for its 2021 edition, and if in-person screenings are not possible, at the very least the festival is planning a truncated three-day largely virtual programme, which would open the festival experience to an even wider audience.
