The Future is Bright for Nemeton TV and Waterford Institute of Technology Television Graduates
01 Nov 2019 : News Desk
Some of the 2019 Graduates
Nemeton TV has announced that the Class of 2019 from the Higher Diploma in Arts in Television Production have been conferred with their awards at Waterford Institute of Technology.

WIT President Professor Willie Doherty in his conferring address offered the graduates many congratulations and gave a very special thank you to all who supported them throughout their time at the institute.

“All of our staff are tremendously proud of their part in your achievement; we are grateful for the learning we have received from you, and we are sure that you will bring with you something of the spirit of community and collaboration that we strive hard in Waterford to create.”

It has been a really successful year for the ten filmmakers from the Higher Diploma in Television Production; they are already beginning to realise their dreams as film and television producers, directors and editors in top production companies around the country. Following in the footsteps of former graduates, Helena Keane and Morgan Mansfield who are working with Tyrone Productions on TG4’s drama Ros na Rún. Meanwhile, Eannaí O’Sullivan from Cork is working with Red Shoe Productions, the award-winning makers of Fleadh Cheoil and Gradam Ceoil TG4.

The course proved to be the perfect place for Eannaí to hone her passion and make her first film: “Learning and being involved in every aspect of the making of a student film really helped me understand what kind of work I saw myself in and gifted me with memorable experiences.” Eannaí’s film Cara nó Namhad will be screened at this year’s Galway Junior Film Fleadh.

And there is further good news for this year’s graduates: TG4 will be broadcasting the high-quality films which they produced, directed and edited while on the course. Amongst the films to be aired is Waterford based photographer John Foley’s gripping documentary Díoltas. It is based on the brutal kidnapping, imprisonment and eventual execution of RIC District Inspector Gilbert Potter by the IRA in 1921 during the War of Independence. John says that “Using the film production and editing skills I learned on the course I am now working for myself as a Digital Content Creator.”

While the 2019 graduates make their way in the media industries, the future is clearly looking bright for a new group of young filmmakers, already making their first short films on this year’s Nemeton TV and Waterford Institute of Technology’s highly acclaimed course. As Professor Willie O Doherty noted in his address:  At the heart of this bright future will be education: we know that educated, skilled people and new ideas are critical to future economic development and social evolution.”
