The Man Who Wanted To Fly
Frank Shouldice’s heart-warming documentary is among the official selection for the 20th edition of the festival.

After a fantastic opening weekend at the Irish box-office with further expansion this week, Loosehorse producers of ‘The Man Who Wanted to Fly’ have expressed their delight at the upcoming screening of their film in California. The feature documentary is also nominated in the Single Documentary category of the Celtic Media Festival.

Speaking about the film’s success thus far, producer Trisha Canning said:

“The reactions we’re getting from audiences are astounding. What’s been really pleasing for us is the large cross-section of audience with which the film is striking a chord. People of all ages seem to be really enjoying it, with one of the film’s core themes of never giving up on a dream, particularly resonating.”

‘The Man Who Wanted to Fly’ tells the irresistible story of 80-something-year-old bachelor farmer Bobby Coote from Cavan, who has had a lifelong dream to fly a plane. Enlisting the help of his neighbour Sean, the two set out to build their own field of dreams, cutting out a runway in Sean’s farm and even build a hangar in this small rural community.

The largest international cinema event in southern California, the 20th Newport Beach Film Festival will take place from April 25th to May 2nd. The Celtic Media Festival, which is held in a different Celtic heartland each year, will be situated in Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands this time around and will run from June 4th to 6th.
