Kerry County Council Announce 15,000 Bursary For Short Film Project

The Kerry County Council in association with the Arts Council have announce the introduction of a new short film bursary worth 15,000 in an effort to encourage filmmaking in the region.

The funding will be made available to applicants who wish to make a short drama film roughly 10-12 minutes in duration, applicants do not have to live or have any association with Kerry, but the chosen applicant must shoot the short film on location in Kerry.

Filmmakers with experience working in the short film genre, have a developed script, and an intended director and/or producer are encouraged to apply for the bursary by Kerry Arts Officer, Kate Kennelly.

Speaking about the announcement Sinead O’Reilly of the Arts Council said that the bursary would ensure that a culture of filmmaking would continue to be encouraged at a local level in Kerry, adding - “This feeds into the mainstream industry and the generation of future opportunities.”

Moira Murrell, Chief executive of the Kerry County Council further iterated the importance of supporting and growing Kerry’s filmmaking community stating that Kerry was part of a “rapidly growing industry and developing the county’s capacity to respond to and support filmmakers is a tradition Kerry County Council is proud of – The bursary further iterates our support in this regard.”

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday, April 27th - 1pm.
