James Connolly is committed to lifting his people, the working class, out of the extreme degradation they are forced to endure. When he goes to work as a socialist agitator and organiser he leaves a home and a family, and comes back to them when that day's work is done. It is against this universal domestic setting that the epic story of Connolly's quest to transform the lives of ordinary people is told.
'Connolly' is the story of a life motivated by love; for his wife, his children, and his international family - the oppressed, wherever they are to be found. It is a story of great personal tragedy, of a unique father-daughter relationship, and of his commitment to creating the revolution that leads to his death by execution.
'Connolly' is the first major feature film to portray the events that led to the Irish Revolution of Easter 1916.
Mark Geraghty is head of production design.
