The Money Pit investigates how the Government spends taxpayers’ money. When it comes to spending the 37 billion euros a year of taxpayers’ hard earned cash, the concept of ‘value for money’ seems to go out the window.
The programme examines projects across the country where the State has paid dramatically over the odds for empty and unusable buildings and for unsuitable and inappropriate services. It also explores the systematic nature of the cost over-run in road construction and how initial costings inflate at an alarming rate, to double and treble the original estimate and how the additional cost to the Exchequer runs into millions.
