Chess is a universal story about young people and how 'the system' can determine their chances in life, by its often singular definition of intelligence. Despite leaving school early, difficult family circumstances and living in an environment that offers few opportunities, the young people in this film are able to develop a range of skills and intelligences using the game of chess as a development tool.
