Screen Training Ireland and Galway Film Centre are seeking participants for a two-day Directing Workshop with Dearbhla Walsh.

This workshop aims to strengthen participants’ drama directing skills. As well as getting an insight into Dearbhla’s approach to directing, participants will also work in small groups to direct scenes with actors. This workshop is limited to eight participants. Areas covered will include:

  • How to guide an actor's performance on the set
  • Spatial visualization of the scene
  • Blocking scenes –The camera as the 3rd character
  • How to communicate your vision
  • Dealing with particularly difficult scenes e.g. love and violence

Screen Training Ireland and Galway Film Centre are seeking participants for a practical two-day workshop with director Dearbhla Walsh and casting director Maureen Hughes on Approaching Auditions. Participants on this workshop are required to attend the half-day Approaching Auditions Seminar on the previous day. Successful applicants will submit an audition piece prior to course commencement.

As part of an initiative to deliver targeted training interventions for production personnel and crew, Screen Training Ireland is scheduling a number of production-related evening seminars in 2014 that will enable crew to come together and discuss industry developments and issues, and hear from top production talent on a host of practical and creative issues including legal and contractual issues, HR and career development, core production skills, and masterclasses with international HODs.

This second Production Club evening will explore cost reporting – the interactive session will discuss the key cost reporting elements including:

  • Introduction to cost reporting
  • Approaches to adapting the elements to meet the unique requirements of individual films
  • A detailed examination of a real example cost report
  • Q & A

Participants will be taught the time-saving facilities of EP Movie Magic Scheduling, the industry's most widely used scheduling software. This will enable them to compile their schedules in the most effective way and allow them to quickly and confidently modify their work when required. The training sessions will utilise and provide considerable background information to put the practical use of the software clearly into perspective. Participants will be allocated a computer each, which will have EP Movie Magic Scheduling downloaded and ready to use. Areas covered during this training include:

  • Overview of EP Movie Magic Scheduling
  • Introduction to Scheduling
  • Marking-up a Script
  • Inputting Information
  • Scheduling Procedures
  • Reporting

Course Profile:

The seminar will explore the following topics;

Ideation. How to generate good ideas that could become TV formats. Ideation looks at the psychology of creativity, offers a variety of techniques to apply that creativity to the generation of relevant TV-oriented ideas, and applies different narratives to those ideas to tell a story in different ways.

Turning Ideas into Formats How to take good ideas and turn them into great formats. We explore and apply a unique system developed by The Format People to focus and clarify the heart of an idea, and develop it into a practical working format with potential international appeal.
