In this Adobe Authorised Training, students will learn all the main features of Adobe video editing software, Premiere Pro.

Adrian Ferry, chief engineer at Abú Media, will outline the workflow and data management used on Abú Media’s IFTA winning reality series, Jockey Eile. This was the 1st series in Ireland fully delivered to TG4 for broadcast in the new AS-11 tapeless format which is now also supported by the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and many more broadcasters across Europe and worldwide. Issues covered will include:

2. Tapeless post-production

3. Digital delivery of the series to TG4

4. Storage and deep archiving of footage

As part of an initiative to deliver targeted training interventions for production personnel and crew, Screen Training Ireland is scheduling a number of production-related evening seminars in 2014 that will enable crew to come together and discuss industry developments and issues, and hear from top production talent on a host of practical and creative issues including legal and contractual issues, HR and career development, core production skills, and masterclasses with international HODs.

This second Production Club evening will explore cost reporting – the interactive session will discuss the key cost reporting elements including:

• Introduction to cost reporting
• Approaches to adapting the elements to meet the unique requirements of individual films
• A detailed examination of a real example cost report
• Q & A

This popular weekend course, guided by Award-winning director Colm Quinn (Needle Exchange) and aimed at beginners, encourages students to write and present documentary proposals, develop and research ideas, produce, direct and interview. Other subjects taught on this course are digital camera skills, sound recording and advice on funding & markets. Two proposals are selected to be made into short documentaries over a weekend.

This intensive 2-day workshop will introduce beginners to many aspects of camera and lighting work, as well as those looking to refresh their skills.

Our Talent Talks series continues this season with a talk with documentary-maker, Ross Whitaker. Ross will discuss the lessons learned from the documentaries that he has made over the last ten years. The session will be hosted by Documentary-maker and GMIT lecturer, Donal Haughey. Having worked across feature-length documentaries, short documentaries, sports films, current affairs and formats, Ross has insights into all aspects of factual filmmaking and will talk about:

• accessing funding
• differing approaches to documentary-making
• interview techniques
• self-shooting
• visual storytelling
• festival strategies
• choosing the right type of distribution.

Filmmakers will be welcome to ask questions and discuss their own projects. Ross' past films include Bye Bye Now, Home Turf, Saviours and When Ali Came to Ireland. Ross’s new feature documentary, UNBREAKABLE, is due to be released in October 2014.

Great films, special experiences and some fun along the journey – exactly what festivals do best!

We will champion independent productions from Cork, from Ireland and from across the world. Great films continue to be made, films that don’t get to cinemas or to TV. We believe that festivals are ideal places for such productions, that the network of authentic festivals is an important alternative distribution and exhibition circuit.

We know from experience that Cork audiences welcome independent films and we are committed to screening them. Film production, distribution and exhibition systems have been changed radically by digital technologies. We look forward to exploring creative new forms and new ways of presenting films – the cracks between formal genres.

Screen Training Ireland and Galway Film Centre are seeking participants for a two-day Directing Workshop with Dearbhla Walsh.

This workshop aims to strengthen participants’ drama directing skills. As well as getting an insight into Dearbhla’s approach to directing, participants will also work in small groups to direct scenes with actors. This workshop is limited to eight participants. Areas covered will include:

• How to guide an actor's performance on the set
• Spatial visualization of the scene
• Blocking scenes –The camera as the 3rd character
• How to communicate your vision
• Dealing with particularly difficult scenes e.g. love and violence.

Dublin Animation Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing short animated films by Irish and international animators, holding industry related events and introducing the joy of animation and creativity to children.

This 2-Day Masterclass, taught by award winning Director Claire Dix, is a practical, hands on to Directing Documentaries. The course is ideal for both Directors and Producer of non-fiction, and aimed at beginners or those with some experience.

This 2 day practical course is an introduction to sound recording with an emphasis on recording for lifestyle TV, current affairs and documentary. It will also look at the requirements for recording for drama. Working in small groups, the class will do practical exercises in sound recording for different scenarios such as shooting outdoors, interview set ups and extreme conditions. It would be aimed at those who are new to sound recording and those with a little knowledge.

Topics covered will include:

• What equipment is needed for different type of shoots
• How best to record audio in different scenarios
• Correct mic positioning
• Problem solving

Irish Film New York aims to help Irish films and filmmakers find a market in the United States by fostering partnerships between Irish and US-based film institutes. It brings the very best in contemporary Irish cinema to New York. It connects producers and directors and holds many film screenings and Q&A sessions with filmmakers throughout the year.

The annual three day festival will showcase six critically acclaimed contemporary Irish films at NYU’s Cantor Film Center and will hosts a selection of public filmmaker Q&As, industry panel discussions and filmmaker receptions. This year’s festival will take place at the same location from October 2nd through 5th.

Irish Film New York was created in partnership with the Irish Studies Program at NYU’s Glucksman Ireland House. It is pleased to partner with the San Francisco Irish Film Festival and the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival and it is proudly funded by The Irish Film Board and Tourism Ireland

This course aims to introduce script reading, project evaluation and development skills to individuals working as readers, editors, or development personnel in production companies or on a freelance basis.
The course will cover the following: Core development skills Reading and assessing material The function and format of the readers report, Understanding the market, place Who are you assessing material for? Production companies, funding agencies, broadcasters Taste and objectivity, The writer's perspective, The producer's perspective.

As part of the course, participants will complete coverage assignments after the programme which will be evaluated by the tutor.
