Screen Skills Ireland has announced that the Certificate in Production Management for Animation is now open for applications via Springboard+.

This accredited course has been developed by IADT with support from SSI.

The course is designed to equip participants with the skills to manage animation productions from concept development to final delivery, focusing primarily on 2D animation but also covering 3D and VFX. It will prepare students to incorporate their newly acquired skills into real-world industry-led productions.

This second iteration of the course has been informed in part by SSI’s Skills Needs Analysis, which identified creative development skills an important skills gap. To help address this gap, the course will support students to develop their idea as a creative offering and tailor it to different funders.

Students will achieve their learning outcomes through practical work ranging from full team productions to individual exercises. They will gain a recognised qualification that will help to advance their career.

Speaking about the course, Rónán Ó Muirthile, Head of Department of Film & Media at IADT, said: “The National Film School at IADT is delighted to partner again with Screen Skills Ireland on this Animation Production Management programme. We are committed to addressing skills gaps in the sector. The success of the first iteration of the course is a testament to the demand for accredited programmes for the screen arts.

Gareth Lee, Manager at Screen Skills Ireland, added:

“This course presents an opportunity for students to develop practical production skills, to keep pace with the ever-changing technology and practices in animation production. This new cohort of production managers will support the continued success of the Irish animation sector.”

The start date for the programme is 25th September 2020 and is provisionally scheduled to run on Friday evenings and some Saturday mornings. The deadline for applications is 20th August.
