The debut episode of a new comedy series written by and starring Amy Huberman was watched last night by an average audience of 378,000 and 30% share.
The much-anticipated debut of ‘Finding Joy’ on RTÉ One was particularly popular among women aged 35 to 54, where it captured a 36% share. The show had a reach of 604,000 over the episode and was the highest-rating comedy debut of the year on RTÉ.
Amy stars in the series as Joy, a woman who finds herself thrust into the limelight as she tries to get over a painful break-up. As she copes with an unwanted new job as a hapless Vlogger, Joy is forced to change her comfortably ordered existence as she figures out what to do now that she’s lost the love of her life. The series, which also features Aisling Bea, Jenny Rainsford, Laura Whitmore, Catherine Walker and Mark Doherty, is produced for RTÉ and Acorn Media Enterprises by Treasure Entertainment.
Speaking about the figures, RTÉ Group Head of Drama and Comedy Shane Murphy said:
“This was a great debut for Finding Joy. We were completely charmed by this homegrown series when we first read the scripts and are delighted that the audience enjoyed it – and engaged with it on social media - in such high numbers. The success of last night’s opener further builds on RTÉ’s run of recent comedy hits, which have included The Young Offenders. We have more new comedy for our viewers tonight, over on RTÉ2, with the start of Women on the Verge, RTÉ’s co-production with UKTV, starring Eileen Walsh, Kerry Condon and Nina Sosanya.”
‘Finding Joy’ is available to watch back on the RTÉ Player and the series will continue next Wednesday night on RTÉ One at 9.35pm.
