The official trailer for Element’s newest project has been released.
Directed by Oscar® nominee Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster), ‘The Favourite’ is set in early 18th century England, starring Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone.
The story follows a frail Queen Anne (Colman) as she occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Weisz) governs the country in her stead. When a new servant Abigail (Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion.
Irish producer Ed Guiney (‘The Lobster’ & ‘Room’) is producing the project with his production company Element Pictures, in a co-production with Scarlet Films, Film 4 and Waypoint Entertainment. Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan (‘American Honey’) was also the DoP for the film, which premiered at Venice Film Festival last week.
Filmed in various locations across the U.K, ‘The Favourite’ is first due for cinematic release in the U.S on 23rd November. The period drama will be released across the U.K and Ireland in early 2019.
‘The Favourite’ marks the third collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos and Element Pictures following ‘The Lobster’ (2015) and ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ (2017).
