07 Feb 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards were announced Thursday, January 11th, celebrating the best of Irish film and drama from this year’s productions. In the build up to the awards, which will take place on Thursday, February 15th, IFTN will showcase some of the most interesting categories and productions, as well as bringing attention to some new faces that have made a name for themselves in 2017.

This article will be focusing on the Best Actor in a Lead Role - Film, which was won by veteran actor Colm Meaney last year. The seasoned Dublin born actor was awarded an IFTA for his portrayal of the recently deceased Martin McGuiness, on a journey with Ian Paisley played by Timothy Spall.

This year celebrates a youthful upturn with three first time nominees in contention for the 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards' 'Best Actor in a Leading Role - Film' category. This year’s nominees include: John Connors, Dafhyd Flynn, Fionn O’Shea, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Colin Farrell.

Speaking about the Nomination, Dafhyd said:

“I’m so happy to be nominated in the lead actor category of the IFTAs. I wanna say thanks to the people who voted, my family and to the entire cast and crew of Michael Inside, I couldn’t have asked for better.”
