FÍS films featured on RTÉ Home School Hub Film Week
19 May 2020 : News Desk
RTE Home School Hub
IADT’s FÍS film project has confirmed its involvement in Film Week on RTÉ’s, Home School Hub.

The FíS Film Project at IADT and our project partners, the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) were invited to contribute curriculum-based content for the Hubs Film Week.  Eight films from the FÍS repository were selected by RTÉ’s Head of Children & Young Peoples’ Content, Suzanne Kelly, and her production team, as excellent examples of children’s film-making.

The films are integrated into the lessons broadcast across the week, Monday through to Friday, schedule here.

Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson is joining the hubs regular Múinteoirí to deliver the film-making and directing lessons. Múinteoir Lenny will be ably assisted by Seamus, the very popular and loveable puppy puppet.

Abrahamson is best known for his cinematic adaption of Emma Donohue's novel Room - a film that won Brie Larson an Oscar for Best Actress - and his debate-inducing adaptation of Sally Rooney's best-selling novel Normal People.

Speaking about RTÉ Film Week, FÍS Manager, Bernadette Meagher said:

“I am delighted that a selection of the wonderful films made in Irish primary schools are being showcased nationally. It’s a great indicator of the standard of films entered into FÍS each year".

Teachers can access resources in live-action film or stop motion animation at the FÍS website. The recently developed blog series #MakeAFilmAtHome is a paired-back version of the resources and available to all those inspired to create a film.

FÍS was recently shortlisted for the European MEDEA Awards 2020, which is scheduled to take place in Belgium in October. MEDEA Awards recognises and promotes excellence in the production and pedagogical design of media-rich learning resources. The awards seek to bring to the forefront producers, designers, and teachers who provide inspiration to the educational community.
