‘Cuckoo’, a 28-minute Irish webseries has secured a distribution deal with Channel France 4 and JRS.TV (Just the Story) based in Los Angeles.
Directed by Dannan Breathnach and adapted from an original story by Nikki Raklin, ‘Cuckoo’ will be dubbed for French audiences in order to be broadcast on Channel France 4 from May. JTS.TV, a premium digital television network in LA, will begin airing the 28-minute drama from February 28th.
‘Cuckoo’ was produced by Marie Caffrey at Zanzibar Films, and features Pagan McGrath as wild teenager Niamh Keegan, who recognises herself in a digitally ‘aged’ picture of a missing child. Also appearing is IFTA 2012 Best Supporting Actress winner Denise McCormack (Love/Hate) and Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones).
The Irish production was originally commissioned as part of RTÉ’s Storyland series and went on to win a nomination for Best Online Drama at the 2013 Webby Awards. ‘Cuckoo’ is also official selection for the upcoming LA Web Fest and Holly Web Fest, which takes place in April.
The team behind ‘Cuckoo’ are actively looking for new web series ideas for 2014 including treatment ideas and sample scripts with the intention of going into production. This is an open call to established and new writers.
Caffrey will be on ‘Arts Tonight’ on RTÉ Radio 1 at 10pm tonight, Monday, 24 February, where she will be chatting with Vincent Woods about ‘Cuckoo’ and transmedia alongside beActives Triona Campbell and RTÉ’s Head of Drama Jane Gogan.
