Documentary feature film ‘Being AP’ which follows 20-time champion jockey AP McCoy in his final season, has reached the number one spot in the Irish iTunes film charts, in addition to becoming the most popular film on Volta.ie.
The acclaimed documentary has also taken €69,000 in its opening weekend at the Irish and UK box office.
By taking the top spot on iTunes, ‘Being AP’ is ahead of major Hollywood releases including ‘Ant Man’, ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Ted 2’ on its first week of release.
Directed by BAFTA-winner Anthony Wonke (‘The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities’) and produced by Alan Maher, Nick Ryle and John Woollcombe , the all-access documentary follows the 40 year-old AP McCoy who has notched up more than 4,300 wins, 700 falls, 40 broken bones and a BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2010 across a near 25-year racing career.
‘Being AP’ premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September of this year receiving positive reviews. It was also picked up by Entertainment One for US distribution earlier this year.
The film was produced by Nick Ryle for Moneyglass Films, in partnership with Partizan Films and Roads Entertainment, and in association with BBC Films with support from The Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen and the British Horse Racing Authority/Great British Racing.
‘Being AP’ is out now on DVD, VOD and in cinemas.
