‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Releases New Footage
20th Century Fox have released new footage for the upcoming ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’, directed by Matt Reeves.

Actor Andy Serkis introduced the exclusive preview recently at the Darryl F. Zanuck theatre, revealing what looks to be a promising tentpole. "Family, tribalism, empathy and prejudice," Serkis listed in his introduction as being the primary themes central to the upcoming continuation of the long-running science fiction franchise. The film picks up 10 years after the events depicted in the first movie ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, released in 2011. A pandemic has left the apes and only a small number of human survivors in San Francisco. Caesar (Serkis) is now a parent and the leader of an egalitarian society of apes, what Serkis described as an “idealistic Garden of Eden.” ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ is written by Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Mark Bomback.

The sequel, starring Serkis, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, Judy Greer and Kodi Smit-McPhee, will hit Irish cinemas this summer.

Ciarán Foy to Direct ‘Sinister’ Sequel
Irish writer-director Ciarán Foy is set to helm ‘Sinister 2’, the sequel to the Ethan Hawke micro-budget horror movie.

Blumhouse and Entertainment One have announced that production for the Lionsgate/Summit sequel will start in July. The original ‘Sinister’ grossed more than $77million worldwide on a budget of $3million. Foy made his feature debut with ‘Citadel’, a thriller about an agoraphobic father and a priest who try to protect the man’s daughter from feral teens. ‘Citadel’, which caught the eye of directors worldwide, won the Midnighter Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival in 2012.

Starring Hawke as the true crime novelist, the film will be co-produced by Scott Derrickson and Jason Blum. C. Robert Cargill also makes a return as co-writer for the sequel along with Derrickson. Executive producers are Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Charles Layton, and Xavier Marchand and Patrice Theroux for eOne. Blumhouse International is handling foreign sales and BHI has a worldwide distribution and servicing deal with IM Global.

New Trailer for Brendan Gleeson’s ‘The Grand Seduction’
The new theatrical trailer for Brendan Gleeson’s comedy ‘The Grand Seduction’ has been released by eOne.

‘The Grand Seduction’, a remake of the 2004 Italian film ‘Seducing Doctor Lewis’, tells the story of a small fishing village that’s in desperate need of a doctor to not only treat the many, sometimes amusingly, afflicted residents, but also to fulfill a business contract that will keep the local factory up and running. The mayor (Gleeson) does all he can to impress the hot shot doctor (Taylor Kitsch) with charmingly hilarious results. Directed by Canadian actor-filmmaker Don McKellar (of Childstar, Last Night), ‘The Grand Seduction’ is written by Michael Dowse and Ken Scott. The film also features Liane Balaban (Last Chance Harvey), Gordan Pinsent (Away from her), Anna Hopkins (Barney’s Version) and Rhonda Rodgers (One Wish). Roger Frappier produced the original and is back for the remake, producing with Barbara Doran. Sackmann, Mark Slone and Joe Iacono are executive producers. The film was shot in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada and in various outport communities around Trinity Bay, Red Cliff, New Bonaventure and Port Rexton. It will be distributed in Canada by Alliance Films and Voltage Pictures will handle foreign sales.
