Irish-shot horror The Turning releases in cinemas this Friday, January 24th
21 Jan 2020 : Nathan Griffin
The Turning
Shot on location in Wicklow, The Turning is a modern take on Henry James' novella The Turn of the Screw.

The film follows a young governess (Mackenzie Davis; Black Mirror, Blade Runner) who is hired by a man that has become responsible for his young nephew (Finn Wolfhard; Stranger Things, IT) and niece (Brooklynn Prince; The Florida Project) after the deaths of their parents.

The Oscar-winning director travelled to Ireland in February 2018 to oversee the start of the shoot, which took place on the grounds of Killruddery House in Wicklow and has been made under his Amblin Entertainment production banner.

Strong security measures were taken by production to ensure the privacy of the film with crew on the project required to sign non-disclosure agreements and clearance needed to access the site.

The film, which is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, is directed by Floria Sigismondi who is most well-known for The Runaways (2015) and Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale. The film is an adaptation of Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw.

Spielberg has previously worked in Ireland on his Oscar-winning war film Saving Private Ryan (1997), which filmed in Wexford and attended the Irish charity premiere of Lincoln in 2013.

Entertainment One will release The Turning in Irish cinemas on Friday, January 24th.
