31 Oct 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Jessie Buckley, Barry Keoghan and the creative team behind Northern Irish thriller ‘The Dig’ have named among the nominees at this year’s British International Film Awards 2018.

This follows the news that Irish production company Element Pictures lead the overall charge with their critically acclaimed dramas ‘The Favourite’ earning a total of 13 nominations, with the Element’s other new title ‘Disobidence’ making up the rest and earning the company a total 18 nominations at this year’s awards.

Other leading titles such as ‘American Animals’ (10) & ‘Beast’ (8) include nominations for some of Ireland’s top upcoming talent.

Jessie Buckley has been nominated in the Best Actress category for her performance in Michael Pearce’s ‘Beast’. Other nominees in this category include Rachel Weisz for ‘Disobedience’, Gemma Arterton for ‘The Escape’, Olivia Coleman for ‘The Favourite’ and Maxine Peake for ‘Funny Cow’.

Buckley has also been nominated for Most Promising Newcomer alongside Molly Wright, Michaela Coel, Liv Hill and Marcus Rutherford.

Barry Keoghan has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Bart Layton’s ‘American Animals’. Other nominees in this category include Evan Peters for ‘American Animals’, Dominic West for ‘Colette’, Alessandro Nivola for ‘Disobidence’ and Steve Buscemi for ‘Lean on Pete’.

The creative team behind ‘The Dig’ have been nominated for The Discovery Award. Producer Brian J. Falconer, Writer Stuart Drennan and Directors Andy & Ryan Tohill have been selected for the prestigious award and will face stiff competition from ‘Irene’s Ghost’, ‘A Moment in the Reeds’, ‘Super November’ and ‘Voyageuse’.

The British Independent Film Awards take place in London on Sunday, December 2nd.
