Dublin based Visual Effects Studio Egg work on Sony/ABC Pilot
27 Jun 2016 :
Irish-owned Egg, a post-production and VFX studio based on Fitzwilliam Street in Dublin, recently wrapped up all of the animation and visual effects on the quirky CGI/live action comedy pilot Imaginary Mary.

The pilot, which filmed in Vancouver in March, is based on an idea from successful writing duo Adam F. Goldberg (Breaking In, The Goldbergs) and David Guarascio (Community), and was directed by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum).

Created by Oscar-winning director Patrick Osborne (Feast, Pearl), who chose EGG for this challenging project based on the team’s renowned character animation (Ghosthunters: on Icy Trails for Warner Brothers and Sinbad for Sky 1).

EGG’s talented artists led by Liam Neville (The Avengers), John Huikku (Lord of the Rings, Wreck It Ralph), Federico Radero (Underdogs) and Glen Southern (Penny Dreadful, Sky UK), developed Osborne’s original character into a sassy, foul-mouthed sidekick voiced by Rachel Dratch (30 Rock, King of Queens).

The story centres on Alice, a confirmed bachelorette, who has her life turned upside-down when she finally meets the love of her life – a divorced father with three kids. This triggers even more upheaval when the slightly unhinged “imaginary friend” (a CGI animation) that Alice created as a child suddenly reappears in her life to help her navigate the transition from single girl to a woman ready for a family.

Having recently screened at the 2016 TV Upfronts, the pilot was subsequently picked up for series, with production happening in Canada. The series will be a co-production between Sony Pictures Television, ABC and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison and will air in 2017.

EGG’s work, one of Ireland’s leading post-production and VFX studios and a founding member of the VFXAI (Visual Effects Association of Ireland), is consistently nominated for awards and includes Emmy, Bafta and IFTA winning shows. Our credits include Ghosthunters on Icy Trails (Warner Bros) Ripper Street (Tiger Aspect Productions) Moone Boy (Sky1), and Sinbad (Sky 1). Domestic shows include RTE comedy Damo & Ivor and 50 Ways to Kill your Mammy. Irish Feature Films, TV Drama and Documentaries under our belt including I Am Not A Serial Killer (Floodland Pictures) and Cardboard Gangsters (Five Knight Films, Stalker Films) both of which are featured in the upcoming Galway Film Fleadh.

‘Imaginary Mary’ is further proof of Egg’s and Ireland’s international standing as a great place to tell stories, where technical expertise is matched with creative command in the VFX industry.
