Ken Wardrop’s short ‘Undressing My Mother’ has won the Best Documentary and the prestigious Prix UIP Tampere awards at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland.
The Tampere Festival is one of Europe’s premier short film festivals. The 2005 international competition included 35 short films from 78 countries, selected from over 2,300 entries.
In its report the jury described the film; “The beauty of an aging body through the eyes of a loving beholder. A brave and respectful film in which the visuals and content work in perfect harmony”.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has recently accepted the Tampere Film Festival to the Oscar category of festivals which means the winners of the main
prizes at the Festival are accepted to be nominees for Oscar Short Film Awards.
This continues a successful run for 'Undressing My Mother' after picking up the Best Short Film prize at the 2004 IFTA's and the Audience Award For Best International Short at the Cork Film Festival. Most recently, producer Andrew Freedman won the Newcomer Award at the 2005 Digital Media Awards.
Director Ken Wardrop is the other half of production Company, Venom Productions, which he co-founded with Andrew Freedman. The duo are currently developing their first independent feature alongside their already successful and expanding production company. Both are recent graduates from the IADT-DL 2004 National Film School and 'Undressing My Mother' was their graduate film.
