13 Jan 2022 : Nathan Griffin
Clare Dunne selected for European Shooting Stars 2022.
IFTA-winning writer/actor Clare Dunne has been named as one of ten emerging European talents for this year’s 25th anniversary edition of European Shooting Stars.

Well known from stage productions (Juno and the Paycock, The Cripple of Inishmaan), as well as film and television, Clare Dunne is one of Ireland's leading actors. She recently starred as Amanda, the female lead in Kin for Bron/AMC+/RTE, written by Peter McKenna, which is available to stream on AMC+ and the RTE Player.

Dunne recently co-wrote and starred in Herself, for which she won the 2021 IFTA for Best Script with co-writer Malcolm Campbell. The film, directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mama Mia, The Iron Lady), was produced by Element Pictures (Normal People) and Sharon Horgan's Merman (Catastrophe). Herself premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and was picked up for international distribution by Amazon Studios.

In addition to winning the IFTA for Best Script, Clare was also nominated for Best Actress Lead Role at the 2021 Awards. Other nominations include a British Independent Film Award (2021) for Best Actress, a CSA  Award (2021) for Outstanding Achievement in Casting, Herself won the Women Film Critic Circle Award for 2021 for ‘Women Saving Themselves,’ and the Discovery Award (Clare Dunne) and the Human Rights Film Award (Phyllida Lloyd) at the Dublin International Film Festival in 2020.

Clare was also recently seen in Sir Ridley Scott's The Last Duel and in the Marvel Blockbuster Spider Man: Far From Home.

As part of the European Shooting Star programme, seven actresses and three actors will be presented to the international press, the industry, and the public, from 11 - 14 February 2022, in an exclusive hybrid programme during this year’s 72nd Berlinale (10 - 20 February 2022) adapted to the current Covid protocol.

The 5 person international jury consisting of Swedish-Georgian filmmaker, Levan Akin; casting director and president of the International Casting Director’s Network (ICDN), Timka Grin from Bosnia and Herzegovina; former Italian European Shooting Star, Sara Serraiocco; Luxembourgish film producer, Bernard Michaux; and German based film scholar and curator, Yun-hua Chen selected the ten talents and affirmed their immense potential for an international career based on many factors, including evaluation of the nominated feature films and series.

Clare Dunne now joins previous Irish recipients such as IFTA winning actors Fionn O’Shea, Aisling Franciosi, and Domhnall Gleeson, as well as, Oscar nominee Ruth Negga and BAFTA winner Andrew Scott.
