BAFTA Nominations 2023: Banshees, An Cailín Ciúin, Paul Mescal and Daryl McCormack among Irish talent

Martin McDonagh's film scored a total of 10 nominations while An Cailín Ciúin is nominated for Adapted Screenplay and Film Not in the English Language.

The Banshees of Inisherin's nominations include Best Film, Best Director and four acting nominations for Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon.

McDonagh is a previous BAFTA winner, having received the Best Original Screenplay award in 2009 for In Bruges; and Best Film, Best British Film and Best Original Screenplay in 2018 for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Irish language feature film and Oscar contender, An Cailín Ciúin/The Quiet Girl has been nominated in two categories: Film Not in the English Language and Best Adapted Screenplay for Colm Bairéad. The film's screenplay is adapted from the book Foster by Irish author Claire Keegan. The film recently made the shortlist for International Film at the Oscars and it will be announced on 24th January whether it has made the nominations list.

Three of the six actors nominated for Leading Actor are Irish: Farrell for his performance in Banshees which won him a Golden Globe last week, Paul Mescal in Aftersun and Daryl McCormack in Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. McCormack has also been shortlisted for the audience voted EE BAFTA Rising Star Award.

The 2023 BAFTA Awards will be held on February 19th and will be hosted by Richard E Grant and Alison Hammond.

Rounding out The Banshees of Inisherin's 10 nominations are Best British Film, Original Score (Carter Burwell), Editing (Mikkel E. G. Nielsen), Best Original Screenplay (Martin McDonagh).

Northern Irish short film An Irish Goodbye has been nominated for Best British Short Film, following the news that it has been shortlisted for the Oscars.
