'Spin The Bottle', the feature length film following the exploits of Rats, the character from the brilliant 'Paths To Freedom' series, is finishing the second of its three week shoot.
The film is written and directed by Ian Fitzgibbon, with the central character, Rats, played with great gusto by Michael McElhatton. The story follows Rats trying to raise money to send his auntie to Lourdes, and includes cameos from Gerry Ryan, Louis Walsh and Miram O'Callaghan.
The budget is very tight (eur800,000), and is being shot on Super 16 by DP Own McPolin in Dublin (Mountjoy, RTE, city centre and Dolphin's Barn). Buena Vista, XtraVision, and production company Grand Pictures are the financiers, and Buena Vista are looking at an Oct/Nov Irish release date for the film. Screen Scene are doing the picture cut, Movie Tracks (UK) are looking after the sound cut, and SoHo Images (UK) will be taking care of lab and blow up to 35mm. Cameras are from VFG.
