16 Nov 2021 : News Desk
Producer and director Conor Slattery.
The Conor Slattery directed and produced feature film Once Upon a Time in Ireland has won the Best Independent Feature Film at The Dublin Underground Cinema International Film Festival this weekend.

Now in its 12th year, the festival is and has a very strong track record of supporting high-quality independently produced Irish and international films. The awards ceremony was held in The Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire in Co. Dublin and is a champion of emerging filmmakers. Affiliated with the Irish Film and Television Academy, Underground Cinema holds the belief that no matter what a film’s budget or the director’s vision may be, it’s the filmmaker’s passion that drives a film.

I'm so thrilled for Once Upon a Time in Ireland! I’m thrilled for the crew, the cast, the countless supporters, helpers and friends of the film!” said director Conor Slattery, when speaking about the award win. “I’m eternally grateful to Dublin Underground Cinema for awarding Once Upon a Time in Ireland Best Independent Feature Film"

Set in 1922 Civil War Ireland, Once Upon a Time in Ireland follows a band of Republican IRA idealists who are under siege in a tidal cave carved into the beautiful, rugged wilderness of the Irish Atlantic coast; outside awaits a bloodthirsty force of Pro-treaty British-supported troops.

Born in Cork, Ireland, Conor Slattery began his filmmaking career in 1999 in a Roger Corman studio in the west of Ireland. He has produced and directed multiple television commercials, short films, music videos, documentaries and two feature movies.
