Filming has commenced on TG4's new teen musical drama Eipic on location in Woodford, Co. Galway.
The filming of Magamedia's new drama EIPIC has reached week 3 of 6 filming entirely on location in Woodford. Co. Galway. The 6 x 1/2 hour series follows the fortunes of 5 rural teenagers who take over their local abandoned post office to start a musical revolution in 2016. EIPIC is a bold story about escape, empowerment and what it means to be a teenage “hero” in contemporary rural Ireland set against the backdrop of the 1916 centenary celebrations.
Penned by Mike O'Leary (Misfits: Strung Out), produced by Ciara Nic Chormaic (Am an Ghátair) and directed by Louise Ní Fhiannachta (Rúbaí, Páidí Ó Sé: Rí an Pharóiste), EIPIC is designed by Nicola Moroney (Corp + Anam) and edited by Conall de Cléir (Cré na Cille), with Colm Hogan (An Klondyke) as DOP.
Speaking about Eipic, Producer Ciara Nic Chormaic says: "What's particularly gratifying about this script is its freshness and positivity - it turns all the usual stereotypes of Irish drama on their heads. It is the first post watershed teen drama to be broadcast on Irish television and was devised to capture contemporary Irish teenagers' lives ... with a hint of magic realism and big laughs thrown in for good measure.
Speaking about the production, Executive Producer Paddy Hayes said: "Although Eipic is set in 2016, it has a real punk sensibility - it tells the story of a teenage rebellion through teenagers' eyes - it's quirky, it's kooky and manages to be both hilarious and heartfelt at the same time."
The series was produced with funding from TG4, the BAI and Section 481 and it is expected that EIPIC will be broadcast on TG4 in the Spring of 2016.
