07 Jan 2021 : News Desk
With the major International Awards ceremonies slightly delayed this year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, IFTN rounds up the ceremony and nomination dates of the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, BAFTA Awards and 93rdAcademy Awards, as a number of Irish hopefuls seek nominations.

With all major Awards ceremonies going full steam ahead, many Irish film talents are in the race for nominations. Variety have also highlighted performances by Saoirse Ronan (Ammonite) and Jessie Buckley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things) as Academy Award contenders, whilst Element Pictures’ Herself, written by Clare Dunne and Malcolm Campbell, is in the race for Best Original Screenplay. Elsewhere, Arracht, Ireland’s entry for the Best International Feature category, will be hopeful of making the 10-film shortlist on Feb 9th; giving it a significant chance of a nomination.

At the Golden Globes, Variety hasn’t ruled out acting nods for Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville in the IFTA Best Picture winner Ordinary Love, while Jamie Dornan’s performance in the Screen Ireland and WRAP funded feature Wild Mountain Thyme is said to have a strong chance in the Best Actor: Comedy or Musical category. Meanwhile, smash-hit Irish drama Normal People will hope it can emulate its Emmy-nomination success in the television categories at this year’s Golden Globes’ ceremony.
