11 Jan 2021 : News Desk
The new six-part factual series that examines some of the iconic relationships throughout the history of Ireland.

Cork Company Bo Media bring a new compelling history series Scéalta Grá na hÉireann, to TG4 this January. From the stormy passions of the ‘Pirate Queen’, Grace O’Malley, to Oscar Wilde’s doomed love affair with Lord Alfred Douglas, Scéalta Grá na hÉireann is a compelling series revealing some of the greatest romances of the most iconic lovers ever to shape Ireland’s remarkable history.

Each episode follows a famous Irish love story and is anchored by a tangible item that represents and reflects the relationship in each story. Whether it is the love letters (over 300 in all) written by Michael Collins and Kitty Kiernan during the most violent period in Irish history and the beautiful, or the delicate harp-shaped brooch that Robert Emmet gave to his fiancée Sarah Curran that represents both his undying love for Sarah and for Ireland. These items and direct connections to these historical stories can all be seen today in museums or in the landscape throughout Ireland.

The series will also feature the love stories of Maud Gonne & WB Yeats, Eibhlín Dubh & Art Ó Laoghaire, and Gráinne Ní Mháille & Risteárd an Iarainn, and features an original version of caoineadh airt uí laoghaire by Cork singer Claudia Rose.

Scéalta Grá na hÉireann is a Bo Media Production for TG4, made with the support of the

Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, produced by Derek Nagle. Bo Media is a leading television and media company based in Cork, Ireland.

Scéalta Grá na hÉireann airs this Wednesday, 13thJanuary on TG4 at 8.30pm
