Eoin Macken's Here Are the Young Men picked up for North American distribution by Well Go USA Entertainment
20 Nov 2020 : News Desk
Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Finn Cole.
Slated to be released in 2021, Here are the Young Men is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Rob Doyle.

Eoin Macken directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Doyle. The film was selected to close the 28th edition of Raindance Film Festival in the UK. It previously received its World Premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh, where it won the Bingham Ray New Talent Award for co-producer Edwina Casey, and screened at the Giffoni Film Festival, where it was in Official Competition.

Set in 2003, the film is a frenetic tale of toxic masculinity, adolescent love, and paranoia that follows a group of Dublin teenagers over one hot, hedonistic summer and features a multinational cast of young actors including Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Finn Cole (Slaughterhouse Rulez), and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo (Sing Street), and Lola Petticrew (A Bump Along the Way, Dating Amber).

Matthew (Chapman) and his disaffected friends have just finished school, and so begins a summer of drink, drugs, and thrill-seeking. Matthew romantically yearns after his friend Jen (Taylor-Joy) and struggles to maintain his increasingly disturbing relationship with the magnetic and sadistic Kearney (Cole). Their precocious friend Rez (Walsh-Peelo) has started to succumb to paranoia and depression, damaging his relationship with his supportive girlfriend Julie (Petticrew). When Matthew witnesses a young girl getting run over, he and his two friends are forcing to grapple with the most daunting challenge of their lives: facing the demons inside.

Hail Mary Pictures’ Edwina Casey & Richard Bolger (Cardboard Gangsters) and Union Entertainment Group’s Noah C Haeussner (Arctic) produced the pic with Foton Pictures. Paul W.S. Anderson, Andrew Davies Gans, Conor Barry, Michael Raimondi, Emerson Machtus, Carlos Cuscó, Dearbhla Regan, and Gary Shortall are serving as executive producers.

ICM Partners and CAA Media Finance brokered the deal on behalf of the filmmakers. Signature Entertainment acquired the international distribution rights in the UK and Ireland, with plans to release the film day-and-date in Q2 of next year.

Irish distributor Wildcard Distribution will manage the theatrical release of the film in Ireland.
