Glenn Close Selected as 2019 Oscar Wilde Award Recipient

The six-time Academy Award nominee will be honoured by the U.S.-Ireland Alliance at the 14thAnnual Oscar Wilde Awards

The Oscar Wilde Awards shines a light on cinematic contributions from Irish and Irish-American artists, hosted annually by J.J. Abrams who serves as the evening’s emcee at his Bad Robot Compound in Santa Monica. Melissa McCarthy, the recipient of an Oscar Wilde Award in 2012, will present Close with her award. The event is officially hosted by the U.S.-Ireland Alliance, a non-profit organisation running for over 20 years. The Alliance have previously acknowledged Irish recipients including Irish actors Aidan Gillen and Barry Keoghan.

Most recently, Close stars in the title role of the film adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s bestselling novel, “The Wife,” winning a Golden Globe Award and coming tied first for a Critics Choice Award for the role. Close received her sixth Academy Award nomination in 2012 for Irish produced film “Albert Nobbs”, for which she also wrote the screenplay with legendary Irish writer John Banville. 

The 14th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards takes place on February 21st
