Cinema Round-Up: Irish Talent on the Big Screen this April

'Between Land and Sea'
There are three major productions screening in cinemas before the end of this month with Irish talent attached, which are contending with a slate of international releases.

These are ‘Handsome Devil’, the second feature film from John Butler, Ross Whitaker’s latest documentary ‘Between Land and Sea’, and ‘Lady MacBeth’ from Irish producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly.

Handsome Devil
A coming-of-age drama starring Fionn O’Shea and Nicholas Galitzine as unlikely friends Ned and Conor, which delves into the rugby-obsessed world of an Irish boarding school. When the pair is forced to share a room, a bond begins between the loner and athlete challenging school conventions. Moe Dunford (Vikings) and Andrew Scott (Steel Country) also star as school teachers with clashing opinions.  

The project is produced by Rebecca O'Flanagan and Robert Walpole of Treasure Entertainment. ‘Handsome Devil’ releases tomorrow, Friday April 21st and is distributed in Ireland by Icon.

Between Land and Sea
Second in the Irish line-up is Ross Whitaker’s latest documentary project is an observational feature, offering insight into a year in the life of surfers in Lahinch, County Clare, on the west coast of Ireland. The project is produced by Motive Films and is distributed in Ireland by True films. For information on screenings visit the official website.

Lady MacBeth
This period drama is led by Florence Pugh who is sold into marriage to a middle-age man. It marks the feature film debut for Oscar-nominated producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, with William Oldroyd directing a script from Alice Birch. It is distributed in Ireland by Wildcard Distribution and releases on Friday April 28th.
