All-Female ‘Fair City’ Episode Among RTÉ Highlights for International Women’s Day
06 Mar 2017 : Laura Brennan
RTÉ will air a very special all-female episode of ‘Fair City’ at 8pm on RTÉ One on Wednesday, 8th March to celebrate International Women's Day. This is the first time an episode of ‘Fair City’ will feature all-female character storylines.

The action will see the women of Carrigstown end up at a spontaneous lock-in, in McCoy’s pub, where some feuds will be laid to rest, while others will reach new heights.

Speaking about the all-female ‘Fair City’,  episode Brigie deCourcy, Executive Producer said: “We’re so excited to air this very special all-female episode on Wednesday night which is a first for an Irish soap.  Strong women have always been at the heart of Fair City, so we decided what better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than putting our Carrigstown ladies out front and centre in their very own episode.

“The programme has been months in the making, planning the storylines well in advance to ensure that all these characters collide on the same day and I really hope the audience at home will enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed creating it.”

To mark this historic episode, RTÉ Player will host a series of short behind-the-scenes features in which Celia Murphy (Niamh), Ashling O’Neill (Carol) and Rebecca Grimes (Hayley) chat candidly about their role in the episode, the relationship between their characters, their female influences and what the future holds.

Also on RTÉ One, ‘Women on Walls’, a 52-minute documentary following the campaign by Accenture in partnership with the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) which seeks to make women leaders visible and to inspire the next generation will be broadcast on Thursday 9th March at 10.15pm.

The campaign honours the first four female members of the RIA and shines a spotlight on 8 living scientists, all leaders in their fields in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)

Online, RTÉ.ie will be celebrating creative Irish women across the Irish cultural spectrum, devoting the entire day to culture content about and by female artists, with a particular focus on ‘The Works Presents’ special on artist Jessie Jones, which airs on RTÉ One on Tuesday 7th March.

RTÉ Archives will mark International Women's Day by featuring a range of great stories across Twitter and Facebook.
