Coco TV Producing Three Slots For Paddy's Festival
14 Mar 2005 :

MD of Coco Television, Stuart Switzer, has confirmed he is producing three programmes for RTE to be broadcast during The St. Patricks Festival; 'The St. Patrick's Day Parade', 'The Skyfest' and new to this year's roster a Festival Uncovered style show 'More Than A Day'.

This year The St. Patrick’s Festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary and runs from the 16th – 20th of March. With an expected attendance of over 1 million people (including 250,000 visitors) the festival is worth an estimated €80million to the economy of Dublin City.

First up in Coco’s hectic schedule is ‘The St. Patrick’s Day Parade’ which begins broadcasting live on RTE One at 12.20pm. Hosted by four of Ireland’s best known presenters, anchor Ronan Collins will be joined by three roving reporters on the street; Derek Mooney (Winning Streak), Catherine Thomas (No Frontiers) and Sile Seoige (Coisceim).

Representatives from four Irish aid agencies (Concern, GOAL, Irish Red Cross and Trocaire) will grand marshal the parade which departs from the Northside location of Parnell Street.

Directed by Patrick Cowap (The Panel), the crew will use the GPO as their main backdrop with nine cameras positioned at various vantage points across the city. In addition and for the first time this year, there will be a second line of 12 Garda CCTV and security cameras at Cowap’s disposal to ensure not one frame of the action will be missed. Throughout the broadcast the team will interview well known Dubliners who will provide anecdotes and memories about the city and its world famous parade.

‘The Skyfest’ beigns broadcasting live at 8pm on Saturday the 19th of March. Directed by Simon Gibney (The Bronx Bunny Show) the ‘Skyfest’ is always a highlight of the festival events. Catherine Thomas will present the Skyfest Party from the roof of the Ulster Bank with 2FM DJ Dave Fanning providing commentary over the spectacle. In total, seven cameras will be used in the production.

TVM is providing the OB facilities with posting carried out a Windmill Lane. For both live events, 1 minute and 5 minute EPK’s will be distributed to worldwide news networks via APTV.

Finally, replacing the traditional highlights package, ‘More Than A Day’ will be a magazine style “behind the scenes” look at the festival as seen through the eyes of the presenters, festival organisers, a CBS reporter as he commentates live on US TV, the Garda command centre and a member of a visiting US marching band. This 26min programme will be broadcast on RTE One on Sunday the 20th of March at 7.30pm.
