Windmill Lane announces new senior appointments in Film/Drama/Longform Division
30 Jan 2020 : News Desk
Sarah Caraher and Maura Murphy will take up new roles with Windmill Lane.
Windmill Lane has announced the appointment of Sarah Caraher as Director of its Film/Drama/Longform Division, while Maura Murphy has been appointed as Head of Drama.

Sarah takes over the reins on Windmill Lane’s film and television post-production division from Tim Morris, who will move to head up the company’s VFX Division.

In her new role, Sarah takes a place on the Executive Management Board of Windmill Lane and will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of Windmill’s film, television, and streamers post-production division while identifying areas of growth and overseeing the progress of projects through the facility.

Speaking today, Sarah said, “I’m delighted to be taking over the division at such an exciting time for the industry.   While we are all facing significant disruption, there is a lot of amazing work being made, particularly in TV Drama.  There are many opportunities out there and my focus will be on making sure we are making the most of those opportunities.

“In many ways, we will be looking at doing things differently, but I do want to keep the tradition of Windmill as a key part of the Irish industry and being a force to foster talent. A key part of that for me will be looking to add to our female creative talent in addition to our track record of gender parity across production and senior management at Windmill.  I also think it’s important to focus on a collaborative approach across the wider industry as we are up against so much competition from other territories with significant tax breaks.

Sarah joined Windmill in 2010 and has managed feature, drama and TV projects ever since, working on features like The Siege of Jadotville for Netflix, Lockout starring Guy Pearce, Terminal starring Margot Robbie, international blockbuster Titanic: Blood & Steel and Miss Julie starring Jessica Chastaine, as well as high profile TV drama including Love/Hate and feature documentaries like Making The Grade.  Having graduated from DCU with a master’s degree in Film & Television she started work as a runner on a chat show and moved to production assistant.  A stint in The Farm Post as receptionist convinced her that post-production was the place for her and she moved to Screen Scene Post as a coordinator where she worked for 4 years, before joining Windmill Lane.

In related news, Maura Murphy has been appointed as Windmill Lane’s Head of Drama.  Maura has worked in Windmill for ten years, starting – like many in the TV and film industry in Ireland – as a runner at the facility.  She then moved into a post-producer role, graduating to Senior Post Producer.  In her new role, Maura will work alongside the Director of Film/Drama/Longform to attract and win new business while maintaining Windmill Lane’s track record of strong customer service and support across all sectors.

Maura said, “I am thrilled to take up the position of Head of Drama here at Windmill Lane. The quality of the content currently coming out of Ireland is astonishing. I look forward to building on our reputation of creative and technical excellence, to supporting our talented teams here and to supporting Sarah in bringing in new business.

Windmill Lane CEO, Dave Quinn said, “As Windmill Lane moves into its fifth decade, these appointments not only recognize the abilities of both of these senior industry professionals but they represent a changing of the guard as even more women move into senior roles within the company.  Sarah’s appointment is a significant move in our film, television + streamers post-production division and we are delighted to recognize her unique abilities, expertise and talents by appointing her to this role.  Sarah is very experienced, absolutely at the top of her game and extremely well-liked and respected in the industry.  Maura’s appointment is also a fitting recognition of her incredible experience and abilities.  Our people are the reason for our success in the industry and I want to ensure that continues by having the best possible people in these crucial positions.  I’m looking forward to them leading the Longform division into Windmill’s next phase.”

Established in Dublin’s docklands in 1978, Windmill Lane became world renowned for its recording studio, music video production & commercials in the 1980’s and 90’s, with founder James Morris branching out to set up The Mill in London in 1990 and TV3 in 1998.

Since then, the company has developed into a formidable force both in the Irish & International markets, for its passion and expertise in feature film, TV drama, VFX, commercials and content creation, moving away from its famous graffiti covered original home to a fully integrated facility in Herbert St in the heart of Dublin's Georgian district. Today, on the strength of its track record & the artistry of its talent, Windmill continues to strive for world class excellence at home & has its sights set confidently on international expansion.
