Irish supernatural comedy ‘Extra Ordinary’ starring Irish comedian Maeve Higgins (‘Moone Boy’), Barry Ward (‘Taken Down’) and Will Forte (‘Nebraska’) has been selected for the 2019 SXSW Film Festival in March.

Written and directed by Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman, ‘Extra Ordinary’ is the debut feature film from the directing duo and will feature in the Narrative Spotlight section of the film festival, which is based in Austin, Texas. The film also boasts a strong Irish cast with Siobhan McSweeney (‘Derry Girls’), Risteard Cooper (‘Apres Match’), Alison Spittle (‘Nowhere Fast’), Mary McEvoy (‘Glenroe’) and Jamie Beamish (‘Derry Girls’) rounding out the cast.

‘Extra Ordinary’ follows the story of Rose, a sweet, lonely driving instructor in rural Ireland, who is gifted with supernatural abilities. Rose has a love/hate relationship with her ‘talents’ & tries to ignore the constant spirit related requests from locals - to exorcise possessed rubbish bins or haunted gravel. But! Christian Winter, a washed up, one-hit-wonder rock star, has made a pact with the devil for a return to greatness! He puts a spell on a local teenager- making her levitate. Her terrified father, Martin Martin, asks Rose to help save his daughter. Rose has to overcome the fear of her supernatural gift & work with Martin to save the girl, get the guy and be home in time for a light snack...maybe a yogurt or something...

Speaking about the news, Writer/Directors Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman said:

“We couldn’t imagine a more fitting festival to show Extra Ordinary for its World Premiere.  Just like in our film, the SXSW line-up will no doubt feature a few creepy rock stars, as well as some weird but lovable folk with supernatural powers. It’s the perfect fit.  We are very excited and honoured!”

Blinder Films added:

“We’re thrilled to be having our World Premiere in SXSW which holds a special place in our hearts after the incredible experience we had there with Citadel. We’re extraordinarily proud of Mike and Enda’s debut feature and we hope that audiences there will fall in love with their unique characters and their hilarious madcap adventures just as much as we have.”

Filmed on location in Kildare, Tullamore and Wicklow last year, ‘Extra Ordinary’ is produced by Blinder Films’ Katie Holly (‘Love & Friendship’), Yvonne Donohoe (‘Striking Out’), Ailish Bracken (‘The Lodgers’) and Mary McCarthy (‘The Delinquent Season’). The film is made in association with Umedia who also funded the project alongside Screen Ireland and Inevitable Pictures.

Wildcard Distribution will handle the film, which is expect to release in Ireland later this year.

Other projects selected to screen at SXSW include the critically acclaimed ‘Wild Rose’ starring IFTA & BAFTA Rising Star nominee Jessie Buckley, which will also feature in the Narrative Spotlight section of the festival.
