‘Cardboard Gangsters’, is currently in production and it is being directed by Mark O’Connor, the director of ‘King of the Travellers’, ‘Between the Canals' and 'Stalker'.
‘Cardboard Gangsters’ was co-written by Mark O'Connor and IFTA nominated actor John Connors (‘Love/Hate’), who has previously starred in ‘King of the Travellers’ and ‘Stalker’, two films also directed by O’Connor.
The film is being produced by Richard Bolger of Five Knight Films in association with Stalker Films and was funded by the BAI, Filmbase and TV3. TV3 have acquired the broadcast rights to the film.
Connors is also playing the lead role of Jay, the leader of a gang who move up the ranks of drug dealing in Darndale trying to take over control of the area from Derra’s (Jimmy Smallhorne) gang.
Funding only came through in the last few months. Cast on the project include Fionn Walton (‘What Richard Did’), Kierston Wareing (‘Fish Tank’), Damien Dempsey (‘Between the Canals’), Denise McCormack (‘Love/Hate’) Paul Roe, ('Adam and Paul'), Stephen Clinch ('Between the Canals') and Corey McKinley (‘71’). UFC fighters Cathal Pendred and Nathan Kelly will also make small appearances.
Other cast members include Toni O’Rourke, Fionna Hewitt Twamley, Paul Alright, Ryan Lincoln, Gemma-Leah Devereux and Ciaran McCabe.
Rushes processing, Grade (Nik Panteris), Online (Alan Sullivan) and Sound (Patrick Drummond, Aza Hand, Colm Mullaly and Katie O’Mahony) will be completed at EGG.
