30 Sep 2014 :
The Programme
After five years at their Barrow Street headquarters, The Factory has been rebranded and renamed as Bow Street, a venue to find future talent for the big and small screen, and is now located in Smithfield.

Housed in the old Jameson Building, a protected structure that was also used as a courthouse under the Bar Council of Ireland, Bow Street has three floors above a basement and offers the actors 6 Studios, canteen, gym, and an in-house cinema. Bow Street’s founders are casting director Maureen Hughes, Filmmaker Shimmy Marcus and Manager Paul O’Connor and they opened their doors to their first 33 students this week.

Speaking after the opening, Maureen Hughes said ’We have been working for 8 months to make this vision a reality. We are delighted to be welcoming 33 new students from Ireland and abroad’.

The Programme for Screen Acting was devised in 2012 and is the only one of its kind dedicated to the art of acting for the screen. The Programme is a year-long full time course run by Shimmy Marcus and Maureen Hughes. Overseeing The Programme’s unique philosophy technique and method is Irish acting coach, voice coach and Alexander Technique teacher Gerry Grennell who has worked with Johnny Depp, Bruce Willis, Heath Ledger, Tom Cruise, Marlon Brando, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep amongst others.

Many young actors and graduates of The Programme such as Jack Reynor, Peter Coonan, Brian Gleeson, Seana Kerslake and Barry Keoghan, amongst others, have secured major roles in productions like ‘Ripper Street’, ‘Quirke’, ‘Charlie’, ‘Vikings’, ‘Love/Hate’, ‘Penny Dreadful’ and feature films ‘Transformers’, ‘Traders’, ‘What Richard Did’, ‘Stay’, ‘Glassland’, ‘The Stag’, ‘Philomena’ with many featuring in upcoming projects such as ‘The Secret Scripture’, ‘The Passing Bells’ and ‘Ten Dates with Mad Mary’.

Manager Shimmy Marcus saidWe believe that we give our students unique tools to tackle the very competitive industry that they have decided to work in. But we are giving them the very best opportunity with the best teachers to succeed.
