The Good Neighbour, a remake of German thriller Unter Nachbarn, will see Irish actor Johnathan Rhys Meyers in a leading role alongside The Man In The High Castle star Luke Kleintank.
Currently filming on location in Riga, Latvia, the film will be directed by Stephan Rick (The Dark Side of the Moon), the director of the original film Unter Nachbarn, who also co-wrote the script with Ross Partridge.
The Good Neighbour is said to centre around two new neighbours, David and Robert, who are bonded together by a hit-and-run incident. According to Variety, the tension in the film begins to build “when the dead girl’s sister shows up to investigate. David, overcome with guilt, wonders if he can find redemption, while Robert is determined to bury the past and keep his new friend for himself, no matter the cost”.
Rhys Meyers most notable roles include his Golden Globe winning performance as Elvis Presley in CBS limited series Elvis (2005), his portrayal of King Henry VIII in Showtime’s and Octogon Films’ The Tudors(2007-10), History Channel’s Vikings (2017-19), Woody Allen’s Match Point (2005), and Mission Impossible III(2006).
The film is being produced by Tulia Zayceva (WarHunt) and Dean Altit (The Misfits) for Altit Media Group. Kia Jam and Igor Pronin will executive produce for Forma Pro Films.
CAA Media Finance will handle North American sales, while Highland Film Group is handling international sales.
Rhys Meyers upcoming projects include Edge of the World (2021) alongside Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings), Neo-Noir thriller American Night (2021) alongside Emile Hirsch and Jeremy Piven, and Japanese graphic novel adaptation Yakuza Princess.
