Nuala O'Connor's Keepers of the Flame Opens in Irish Cinemas - Friday, 14 Dec
13 Dec 2018 : News Desk
Emmy Award-winning Irish filmmaker Nuala O’Connor’s latest feature documentary ‘Keepers of the Flame’ opens in Irish cinemas on Friday, 14 December.

‘Keepers of the Flame’ is a unique account of a generation dealing with the consequences of cataclysmic historic events — the Irish War of Independence and Civil War. It explores the impact of these events on the collective and personal memories of the Irish state and its people.

A vast archive of personal accounts, Irish Military Pensions files and hitherto unseen archive film provide liberating disclosure for the first time. The human experience of war and civil war resonates across time and place. Now the passage of time and the opening of a unique archive allows the Irish experience to be revealed.

The documentary is produced by Tina O’Reilly for South Wind Blows and written by Diarmaid Ferriter and Nuala O’Connor and supported by Screen Ireland, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and RTÉ.

Historian/writer Diarmaid Ferriter and director Nuala O’Connor will take part in a special Q&A, hosted by Pat Collins (‘Song of Granite’) on Friday 14 November at 6.30pm in IFI Dublin and another in Phoenix Dingle on Tuesday 18 November.
