Can't Cope Won't Cope Begins Filming Series 2
13 Nov 2017 :
Deadpan Pictures' hit comedy drama 'Can't Cope Won't Cope' starts shooting series 2 in Dublin today
Once again it stars the acting talent of Seana Kerslake (A Date for Mad Mary) and Nika McGuigan (Traders) as our leading ladies. The 6-part half-hour series is written by Stefanie Preissner (Solpadine is my Boyfriend), being produced by Ailish McElmeel (Nowhere Fast/Halal Daddy) and with director Imogen Murphy (Redrock) taking the reins for season 2.

Can’t Cope Won’t Cope Series 2 sees Aisling and Danielle struggling with the new normality of being apart. We meet Aisling after she’s had her soul sucked out of her by Mallow town for an entire summer. She has a job in a local financial establishment, but in typical Aisling style she throws in the towel at the first signs of trouble. Meanwhile in Vancouver, Danielle is really struggling. There is no-one at her side to roll her eyes at when the super politically correct art school culture in Vancouver starts grating on her. Series 2 gives Aisling and Danielle all of the opportunities to get where they want to go… if only they could make better decisions.

The series is commissioned by RTE 2 with the support of BAI, Section 481 and with Kew Media representing international rights. Transmission will be on RTE 2 this Spring/Summer 2018.

Producer Ailish McElmeel said “We’re delighted to bring Can’t Cope Won’t Cope back to Irish audiences. Having sold series one to BBC in the UK, First Look Media in US and Canada among others, we look forward to bringing series 2 to even more international audiences”.

Writer Stefanie said “Who doesn’t love naps? Well after the longest nap ever we are back on the streets of Dublin with Season 2. I’m thrilled with the scripts for this season - the intention was to capture the Ireland of 2017 and the new issues facing our country and our citizens. Expect ludicrous house hunts, unreliable taxi apps, more fragmented relationships, lots of things unplanned and as ever excess use of alcohol, quinoa and the word “like”, like.”

Director Imogen Murphy added “It’s a pleasure to direct for Deadpan Pictures who consistently produce some of the best in Irish comedy drama. Can’t Cope Won’t Cope has a superb cast this season with returning stars like Seana Kerslake and Nika McGuigan, and some exciting new arrivals.”

Eddie Doyle, Head of Comedy at RTÉ “Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope’ has been a real breakthrough project for RTE, driven by outstanding writing, acting and production talent. We are absolutely delighted that Stefanie and Deadpan have brought these characters and this world back to us, and we’re sure that audiences will be thrilled with series 2”
