Irish Actress Leads Way in Sky 1’s New Drama 'Jamestown'
2017-05-12 9:00:00 :
Set in the year 1619 Sky 1’s new drama ‘Jamestown’ goes back in time to bring the story of English settlers in America. Irish talent Niamh Walsh maps her acting voyage on to our screens playing the strong character of Verity Bridges one of the leading ladies in the programme.

The 8 episode drama is produced by Carnival Film & Television for Sky 1. The London based production company is also behind series such as ‘Downtown Abbey’, The Last Kingdom’ and ‘Agatha Christies’s Poirot’.

In the past Niamh has made several appearances in television programmes such as ITV's 'Jekyll & Hyde' and the BBC's hospital dramas 'Casualty' and 'Holby City'.

Irish cinematographer John Conroy is also on board for the new series he has previously worked on TV show’s such as ‘Penny Dreadful’, ‘Luther’ and ‘Fortitude’.

With the first episode of the series airing on Sky 1 on May 5th, filming work is already underway in Budapest, Hungary for the second series. Niamh posted a photo of herself this week on her twitter page looking to be enjoying the filming captioned “Just having a dreadful time on set” as she stands laughing in a field holding a parasol & bottle of water in hand.

Written by Bill Gallagher (Lark Rise to Cranford) ‘Jamestown’ follows the story of a group of English women shipped out to an English colony in America called Jamestown where their purpose is to be maids that will make wives for the men of the town who have been on the land for 12 years by themselves.
