Éire Shorts section set to feature at the delayed virtual edition of Newport Beach Film Festival

The Newport Beach Film Festival has confirmed that it will go forward in 2020, with online theatre screenings being arranged by festival organisers.

The dates that were originally set for April and then postponed to August 2020 will see further changes to their programme amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival that was pencilled to run from August 6th through to the 20th, and then August 6th to August 10th for five days will now screen virtually this October 2020 amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The founders of the festival are said to have worked tirelessly to make sure that the Newport Beach Film Festival went ahead in 2020; and by negotiating with venues and theatres along with the city of California’s safety requirements the festival looks set to take place in 2020.

As one of the first, major North American festivals to return to theatres, the NBFF team, despite needing to furloughs employees and release dozens of volunteers, has worked overtime in order to create the safest possible conditions and therefore decided on online theatre screenings.

Online screenings will run all day throughout the festival with Irish short The Bridge starring Lochlann O’Mearáin, (Finding Joy), Peter Coonan (Dark Lies The Island), and Marie Mullen (Clean Break), written by Sarah Ingersoll, directed by Mark Smyth, and produced by Lynn Larkin, screening as part of the Irish Strong/Eire Shorts section.

“We are delighted that the team at Newport Beach Film Festival have worked so hard to commit to screening, The Bridge, at the festival this year, said producer,” said Lynn Larkin. “This is our International Premiere for the film and we are delighted to have some happy news within this current environment, hopefully it will continue.”

Other Irish shorts in this section include Bainne, The Ferry, Kachalka, and The Grass Ceiling.
