‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’
Netflix have picked up the rights to Irish neo-Western ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ and will make the title available to over 50 million subscribers across the U.S. and Canada from the 9th December 2015.

The deal with Netflix caps off an extraordinary year for the Irish indie feature, produced for €20,000. In January, it premiered at the renowned Slamdance Film Festival, and went on to immediately acquire U.S. and International distribution deals and screen at numerous high-profile festivals across the world, garnering recognition for its script, cinematography and performances along the way.

It was released in the U.S. and Canada on VOD and Cable VOD in October through New York-based distributor Candy Factory Films, who also negotiated the Netflix deal. Its international festival run and sales are handled by Canadian-based Cinemavault.

The dark drama was written and directed by Patrick Ryan and stars Emma Eliza Regan, Emma Willis and Brian Gleeson. It was financed privately and independently through crowdfunding, produced by Lagoon Pictures Ltd, and filmed entirely in County Kerry. It was shot by Tommy Fitzgerald, edited by Conor Fitzpatrick and scored by Alex Ryan, bassist and Musical Director of Hozier. The soundtrack also features a song by up-and-coming Irish RnB trio Wyvern Lingo.

The film had its World Premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2014. After eighteen months on the circuit, ‘Darkness’ is concluding its festival run in the New Year. Ryan and Gleeson are set to work together again on Ryan’s follow up feature, ‘Gemini’, a psychological thriller about the rise of a serial killer in Dublin city.
