‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ U.S. Release and Canadian Premiere
10 Sep 2015 : Seán Brosnan
‘Darkness’ was made on a budget of €20,000
Irish Western drama ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ has been selected for the inaugural St. Lawrence International Film Festival, which takes place in upstate New York and Canada this October 22nd - 25th.

‘Darkness’ is one of only a handful of films selected for the festival’s special series of Marquee Screenings, and will have its Canadian Premiere in Brookville, Ontario.

October also sees the US and Canadian release of ‘Darkness’, via New York-based distributor Candy Factory Films. The Indie Western is one of the flagship titles of Candy Factory’s new genre arm, Electric Candy, and will launch on Time Warner Cable VOD on October 9th, followed by online VOD on October 23rd, in conjunction with the screening at St. Lawrence. Cable VOD will see the film available in millions of homes across the US and Canada, while the online VOD covers established platforms such as iTunes, Amazon and Hulu.

‘Darkness’ was written and directed by Patrick Ryan, and produced independently by Ryan and Tommy Fitzgerald (who also served as cinematographer) through crowdfunding and self-financing. It stars Emma Eliza Regan, Emma Willis and Brian Gleeson. Ryan, Fitzgerald, Regan and Willis will travel to the US to attend the screening and promote the film’s release. ‘Darkness’ has been on the festival circuit for the past year, playing a number of major international festivals, gathering strong reviews and sold out audiences along the way.

Writer/director Patrick Ryan said: “It took a while to get here, but we’re very excited to release the film. On top of that, a US release is something you can only dream about. We were definitely aiming for it, but you aim for a lot of things when you make a film for €20,000 and you usually miss most of them. So we feel pretty lucky and very gratified.”

The St. Lawrence Film Festival is an annual event established to showcase the best in new and classic films to a worldwide audience.

The festival runs from the 22nd to the 25th October, in various locations around the St. Lawrence River Valley.
