NITV - Network Ireland Television, based in Dublin - have announced several distribution deals they successfully negotiated at MIPCOM 2013 in Cannes, including the sales of Irish features, documentaries and shorts to the US, UK, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
Oscar-nominated Irish shorts ‘New Boy’, 'Pentecost', ‘The Crush’ and ‘Wish 143’ were all licensed to the AMC/Sundance global cable/satellite feeds; while TG4 drama documentary ‘Mná Díbeartha’ (Convict Women and Orphans) was acquired by Australian cable network Foxtel.
NITV Managing Director Derry O’Brien said: ‘We had a very busy market last month and there was a far more positive feeling among our international buyers, about their interest in both our new programme titles and our recent back catalogue. I think the fact that we have now received these solid orders so quickly after the market, is a definite indication of a new buoyancy amongst our overseas broadcast clients. Long may it continue.’
Also included among NITV’s MIPCOM sales were the documentary ‘JFK: Breaking The News’, picked up by Sony Pictures UK, and Italy’s Mediaset who purchased a short film package including Ged Murray’s ‘Small Time’.
Finally, Sky Arts Channel New Zealand acquired Sean Walsh’s feature ‘Bloom’ and Alan Gilsenan’s feature documentary ‘The Legend of Liam Clancy’.
Established in 1995, NITV’s back catalogue includes over 850 award-winning short films, quality documentaries and series, TV dramas and independent features.
