Maria Ann Hylton is a partner in Morton Films & Media Productions which was founded in 2007 which aims to develop projects and produce independent feature films/shorts and contemporary plays.
Maria wrote & directed “Bittersweet” a short film that has recently gone into post production, starring Arthur Kearns and Ian Mc Elhinney.
Maria wrote and directed “The Couple”, a short film which was shortlisted for the Jameson Best Irish Short Film Award at the Cork Film Festival in 2005. She has also written and produced a range of projects for various community projects throughout London, which included three experimental videos addressing the issues in multi-cultural areas.
Maria is an executive producer and line producer on the feature “8.5 Hours” produced by Brian Lally of Instigator Films an independent feature film. It has screened at International Film Festival Clonmel, Yellow Fever Festival in Belfast, Cannes Film Festival Marche Du Film 09. It was selected for the opening gala at Mid Ulster Film Festival, Wild Cards in Galway Film Fleadh and came 2nd in Best Film category at Waterford Film Festival 2008. It has been nationally released in Ireland from 29th January 2010.
Maria is an associate producer for the short “Kim” by Kathy Raftery of Cinnte Productions. This was also screened at Galway Fleadh 09 has part of the New Irish Shorts.
Maria wrote and performed in the one act play “Conditioned” which premiered in Dublin in December 2007. It was staged once again as part of a double bill along with “Lost Weekend” at the Axis in November 2009. This is a tough contemporary drama about life in a women’s remand.
Morton Films & Media are currently developing a documentary, full length play and film.
Training: She trained as an actress in London at the E15 Acting School and is also a member of British & Irish Equity. She took part in the Catalyst Project seminars organised by the Irish Film Board and Screen Training Ireland.
