The latest feature from the six-time Oscar-nominated Writer/Director will arrive to the big screen in Ireland in just over two months, starring Irish talent such as Jack Reynor and Aidan Turner alongside ‘Carol’ star Rooney Mara.
The project adapts the original tale of Sebastian Barry’s award-winning novel with a large cast which also bears Vanessa Redgrave (Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool), Eric Bana (Special Correspondents), Theo James (Insurgent) and ‘Love/Hate’ favourite Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
It focuses on Rose McNulty (Redgrave) who has spent half a century institutionalised and has developed a special connection with Dr. Grene (Bana), whose determination to discover her past and set her free drives the narrative. The story is embedded in the emergence of the Irish state in the 1940s, when both female sexuality and independence were unwelcome by both the church and politics.
‘The Secret Scripture’ screened at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2016 and is set to have its Irish premiere at ADIFF on Saturday, February 18th. Sheridan directs a script co-written with Johnny Ferguson (Fallout), produced by Noel Pearson and Rob Quigley for Ferndale Films and filmed in counties Dublin, Kilkenny and Sligo.
Wildcard Distribution is releasing in Ireland on behalf of Vertigo Releasing.
