The film is scheduled to shoot in Ireland later this month with Katie Holly and Kieron J. Walsh’s production company Blinder Films producing alongside Westerly Films in association with Chic Films and Revolver Films, with funding from Arte and the Netherlands Film Fund. The Irish Film Board has also awarded €250,000 in funding so far.
The film is based on Stillman’s adaptation of the Jane Austen’s Lady Susan – a novella that Austen never submitted for publication which describes the schemes of the main character, the widowed Lady Susan, as she seeks a new husband for herself and one for her daughter.
Actresses Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny (who previously starred in Whit Stillman’s ‘The Last Days of Disco’) will re-team with the director for the project with Xavier Samuel and Stephen Fry also slated to star.
Writer/director Whit Stillman is currently in Dublin to participate in an Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) event with Academy Members as part of their ongoing ‘In Conversation….With’ series. The event will be held on February 3rd and more details can be found here.
