KGB Screen’s ‘Made in Belfast’ secures Sales Agent
11 Mar 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Following the success of their first feature film, the romantic comedy ‘Made in Belfast’, KGB Screen has signed a representation deal for the film with The Little Film Company. The Little Film Company is a worldwide film sales and marketing company that also theatrically distributes, finances and executive produces independent motion pictures. It has offices in London and Los Angeles and its credits include Irish co-production ‘Cherrybomb’ and rockumentary ‘It Might Get Loud’.

‘Made in Belfast’ is the debut feature film from writer-director Paul Kennedy and KGB Screen’s first production. Filmed on location in Belfast and Paris, it tells the story of Jack Kelly (Ciarán McMenamin – ‘Jump’), a Northern Irish novelist living in Paris whose breakout book exposes the private lives of his loved ones. Returning home after several years, Jack tries to make things right again over his weekend visit.

Produced with a micro budget, it features a mainly Irish cast including Bronagh Gallagher (‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘The Commitments’), Tara Lynn O’Neill (‘The Fall’), Stuart Graham (‘Hunger’, ‘Goldfish Memory’), Lalor Roddy (‘Grabbers’, ‘Hunger’), and making his screen debut, Gary Lightbody, lead singer of Snow Patrol.

The film was produced by Jack Kennedy and Stuart Graham with Louise Gallagher, and executive produced by Mark Butler, Mark Dixon, Raymond Lau and John Mackay. Cinematography was by Damien Elliott (‘Cherrybomb’), editing by Brian Philip Davis and sound by Daniel David McCabe (‘GOT’, ‘Starred Up’), Chris Woodcock (‘Philomena’, ‘Jump’) and Will McConnell (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘The Fall’).

‘Made in Belfast’ has enjoyed a successful festival tour, having opened last year’s Belfast Film Festival and screening at Irish Film New York last October, at which Kennedy won the New Talent award. The feature was also a prize winner at the Flagler Film Festival in Palm Coast, Florida, where it won the Best Foreign Film award. Most recently the film was shown as part of the Toronto and Chicago Irish Film Festivals. ‘Made in Belfast’ will next screen in Los Angeles in a season dedicated to Irish film screenings.

Speaking ahead of the film’s screening in LA tomorrow night, producer Louise Gallagher stated,

“We are delighted to sign with The Little Film Company, and look forward to working with [co-President] Robbie Little and his team on getting ‘Made in Belfast’ to a wider audience. We had a number of offers on the table but felt that The Little Film Company was the best fit for our film. Even though they are based mainly in the States, they have a proven track record with Irish content, and their reputation precedes them.”

‘Made in Belfast’ was made with the assistance of Northern Ireland Screen.
